How to Choose the Right Style and Size
Matching photos to the style you want, reading Asian size charts, measuring your own clothes and avoiding the most common sizing mistakes.
Choose the style first
One listing often contains several colours or prints. On a RepLooks product page, the style options come from the original listing, and representative photos show what each style looks like. Choose the style by its photo rather than its name, because names are often short Chinese labels or numbers.
Some listings link a style photo to one size purely to organise the data; that link does not choose the size for you. Always select the size separately.
Why sizes run differently
Many items on Chinese marketplaces use Asian sizing, which often runs smaller than EU or US sizing for the same label. Others follow the brand's original sizing. The difference is common enough that measuring is always better than guessing from the letter on the label.
Measure a piece you already own
The most reliable method is to compare the listing's size chart with a similar item you already like:
- Lay the item flat on a table.
- For tops, measure chest width from armpit to armpit, body length from the highest point of the shoulder to the hem, and sleeve length.
- For trousers, measure waist width, inseam and leg opening.
- Compare your numbers with the size chart in the listing or in the agent's product page.
Measurements in size charts are usually flat measurements in centimetres. A chest width of 60 cm on the chart means 120 cm around the body.
Shoes
For shoes, measure your foot length in centimetres: stand on paper, mark the heel and the longest toe, and measure the distance. Compare it with the listing's chart, which may use EU sizes, Chinese sizes or millimetres. If you are between two sizes, choose the larger one for sneakers you will wear with thick socks.
Read the QC measurements
Some agents offer a measuring service for clothing during QC. It is worth it for items where fit matters, such as jackets and jeans. Compare the measured numbers with your own piece before you approve the item. The checklist in how to read QC photos explains what else to look at.
Common sizing mistakes
- Ordering your usual letter size without checking the chart.
- Reading body measurements as garment measurements, or the other way round.
- Choosing an oversized style in a larger size and ending up with a very loose fit.
- Forgetting that shoes from different brands fit differently.
