Shipping Your Haul: Parcels, Weight and Shipping Lines Explained
How shopping agents price international shipping: actual and volumetric weight, shipping lines, packaging options and ways to keep the cost under control.
What a haul is
In agent communities, a haul is a parcel that combines several items bought separately. Because agents store approved items in their warehouse, you can order over a few weeks and ship everything together. One parcel usually costs less than several small ones, since every parcel has a starting price for its first weight unit.
How shipping is priced
Shipping lines charge by weight, but not always by the weight you expect. Two numbers matter:
- Actual weight: what the packed parcel weighs on a scale.
- Volumetric weight: the space it takes, calculated from length, width and height divided by a factor set by the carrier.
The line charges whichever is higher. Bulky but light items, such as puffer jackets or shoe boxes, often cost more than their actual weight suggests.
Shipping lines
Agents offer several lines for each country. Lines differ in price, delivery time, tracking quality and which items they accept. Some lines do not accept batteries, liquids or certain brand-name items, and some cover only certain countries. The agent's shipping calculator lists the lines available for your parcel and their estimated price; always check the current options there, because they change often.
Packaging options
When you submit a parcel, agents usually offer options such as:
- Removing shoe boxes to reduce volumetric weight.
- Vacuum-packing clothing.
- Extra protection, for example corner guards or a reinforced box.
- Photos of the packed parcel.
Removing shoe boxes can save a lot on sneaker hauls, but keep them if you want to store or resell the shoes in their box.
Keeping the cost under control
- Combine items into one parcel instead of shipping each order separately.
- Use the shipping calculator before ordering bulky items.
- Choose packaging options that reduce volume where it makes sense.
- Ship within the free storage period so you do not pay storage fees.
Customs and declarations
Every country has its own customs rules, duty thresholds and restrictions. Declare parcels truthfully and follow the rules of your country; the agent cannot change them for you. If you are unsure, check your country's customs website before you ship.
Bulky items to plan for
Winter jackets and sneakers are the items that most often push a parcel into a higher price tier. Plan these purchases together and check the calculator first.
